A New Year and new opportunities.

Today sometimes feels like the hangover of a big year-long party.  There's a mess to clean up while we think about the next big event-New Years.  The older we get, more and more we're stunned at how fast time flies by and usually, we lament on the changes that have occurred over the last twelve months.   Be easy on yourselves. Life is a rough sport.  If you didn't do anything you set out to do the last year, well here comes a whole new opportunity to give those goals another shot.    I will be sitting down to finish book two of Children of the Horse.  It will focus on the village and cover some of the love story of Raven Eye and Bird Song while we watch the love of Snow Fire and Bear Talker continue to grow.   Hopefully, we will see the publishing of Seducing his Senator, a fast and very hot western contemporary.  By the end of the year I should also be starting on pages of some sort of sequel to Josey's Mountain.    These are the goals--let's see how much I can

My daughter and Rice Krispies Cereal. Wow.

Image
My seven year-old daughter is a fussy eater.  Really, a cute little pain in the butt when it comes to her food.  Not interested in the big ham and egg feast I made this morning she pouted in the kitchen until she saw the box of cereal meant for the marshmallow treats.  I pour her a small bowl because I didn't expect she'd eat it being such a picky person.    I give her the bowl...she brings it back to me staring at it with this perplexed look on her face.  I sigh. "What's wrong now?" "Mommy, it's making a fizzing noise, and jumping around in my bowl.  What's wrong with it?" It didn't register in my mind at first but when it did, I howled with laughter.  "That's what that cereal does...snap crackle and pop."   I am crying because I forgotten that at her age how could she know this? She gives me this look like...WOW!!!!   Ate the whole damn bowl.  Don't forget that life is all about the simple joys, the small discove

I lost a Christmas present

Image
Writers are typically insane.  This time of the year just brings it out in spades.  I have a costly gift for my son that I hid so well that now I can't find it.  I've torn up everything, the closet, under the bed, behind the dresser.   I've been known to do this with money too.  I think in my last life I must have lived in a castle because I seem to hide my treasures behind art work, inside books etc etc.... But where the hell did I put this gift?  Is this a mom thing, a me thing or a creative mind out of control thing?  Meanwhile, Children of the Horse is going to be avail in print in a few days. I'm glad my work is all on Amazon, because then I can't lose it.   I hope I find that gift before Christmas.  Ah, maybe by next Christmas?

Happy Release day!!! Excerpt from Children of the Horse

Bear Talker turned her away from the horses to carry her to the water then hesitated. “Do you want me to remove your shift?” Again, her face flushed. She wasn’t sure if this man had ever seen her naked, but she wasn’t ready for that now. His face was so close to hers she could feel his breath on her skin. “Nay, leave it be,” she replied in a slight quiver. Bear Talker shrugged a shoulder as he waded in.   Erin noticed that in the little cove where he had taken them, they were surrounded by tiny pods of Cat-tails. The silk broke free from broken pods and floated like tiny dancers, swaying and lifting with the breeze before gently landing on the surface of the water. Becoming immersed in the beauty around her she momentarily forgot about her anxiety and sorrow. She continued to become fascinated by the pods that surfed both the air and the water, and wondered if she had seen this before with snowflakes. She sighed. Wherever she was, and with whom, she could not say, however she co

I think a Josey's Mountain or One Hundred Horses Coffee Mug means I've made it.

Image
When you are blessed with a cool, innovated publisher like Solstice, occasionally they come up with some clever ideas.  Mine made Mugs with our books on them.  I love it.  Just don't tell the boss that my mug will often have more whiskey than coffee.   Depending on what kind of mood I'm in.  I'll really know Solstice loves me when they make me my own beer mug.  For now, this will do.  If you want to join me every morning with a cup of coffee you can order your mug at www.Solsticepublishing.com Tell them you're on the look out for Elle Marlow shot glasses too.  Oh they'll know, they'll know....

Tis' the season of Where Did I Put That? Fa la la la la la la la la

Image
You’re probably thinking that I’ve gone off the deep end with this blog post.   But you’ll see exactly what I mean in the next few days as you try and wrap all those Black Friday deals.    And if you’re one of those super organized women with all your wrapping materials neatly stored in a plastic container, you have no idea the fun you’re depriving yourself of.  Plus, the rest of the world hates you.  Just sayin' “Frank!   I can’t find the scissors!” “I think Suzy has them in her room.   All her Barbies have mohawks.” “Frank!”   Where the hell is the tape!” “I used it to fix that leak under the faucet.   I think it ended up in Suzy’s room she couldn’t find clothes for Barbie so she wrapped up her privates with it.” “FRANK!” where is the gift wrap and the damn bows?” “Oh is that what that was?   I don’t remember.   Ask Suzy.” “FRANK, I found the tape, the scissors and the gift wrap but now I can’t find a pen to sign the packages” “Suzy was drawing a new face on B

Butterball Turkey Butt Disease

Image
I'm not going to talk about food or food preparation on this eve of Thanksgiving. I figure we have enough of those so instead, I'm going to discuss a well known yet little talked about phenomenon that happens as soon as the weather shifts from summer to fall, crisping the air. Butterball Turkey Butt Disease.  Yes it is real. Mainly affects women over the age of mid 2o's and with hips that measure out 36 inches and beyond.  Sometimes the male species will catch this disease but it doesn't seem to have the long lasting effects in the human male than his female counterpart.   First step in contracting this ailment is to spend time outdoors.  You will notice the first symptom of this disease when someone decides to build a campfire to warm things up.  This disease gives off the perverse desire to stand around the campfire backwards.  As in, here is this beautiful fire and we are going to ignore it, pretend it isn't there by sticking out butts out at it and look

When you're married to a cowboy

Make sure you use specific language.  For instance, last night at seven p.m. I came running out of the bedroom..."I just bought Dakota a ride-on Mustang for Christmas!  The thing is we have to go get it now!"    Hubby runs out the door fast.  I notice he is acting like he is going to hook up the horse trailer.  "No! a Power Wheels Mustang!"   To a cowboy or at least for my husband who is just married to a horse crazy woman, everything has to do with horses.  But I am excited to see my daughter's face when she gets her Mustang.  Plus, it doesn't eat or drink.   Good horse.

What a blast.  If you've never been, go.  Tombstone is everything they say and more.  I felt right at home on the boardwalks, the saloons and at the Bird Cage theater.  Can't wait to go back.   Next time, I'll take a stack of Josey's Mountain with me.  :)

The Call Chronicles 1: The Griswold Gang Elle Marlow invited me as a guest on her blog, to tell you about my newest release, a western. First off, I’d like to give you an idea what this book is all about.    The saga of the Call family begins when twins, Matt and Jason, return to their home to find their parents dead and the family homestead burned to the ground at the hands of the Griswold gang. They send word to older brothers, Hank, Adrian and Brian and along with aid from a dubious Pinkerton agent, the Calls set out on the arduous road to justice.

Get to know The Pin-Up Artist

Image
The Pin-Up Artist Interview   Authored by Elle Marlow     Elle, what is the Pin-Up Artist and why is it having such a strong debut? The Pin-Up Artist created itself.   Believe me, my normal genre is western or native romance.   I love humor and I’m a big fan of Evanovich but I never saw myself writing a romantic/comedy/suspense.   I loved how it turned out though and the reception has been amazing.   Didn’t you have other ideas for publishing this story? Um, yes I did.   It had been requested in full by Harlequin.   I adore Harlequin and their staff, but I have marketing in my blood and I wanted The Pin-Up Artist available to ride on Josey’s Mountain coat tails. Did it? That’s the funny thing.   No it didn’t.   It’s creating its own fan base because of the vast difference between them. What’s the story about?   It’s really cute.    Our heroine, Ginger Garrett is a twenty something year old waitress who just walks out of div

Thomas,  I entered into a world wide competition a story I wrote in just six weeks.   Since then, it feels like I'm on a rocket ship.  I just wanted to take a moment, to thank Solstice publishing, Harlequin publishing and all the fellow authors/readers for always being supportive and honest as I try and grow my craft.  Thank you. xoxo

Welcome Crystal Vaughan to the Elite Blog!   Thank you for stopping by and telling us about your newest release, Conspiracy Of Ravens Ashland, Oregon – Chrystal Vaughan, author of paranormal horror novels Sideshow and Dead in the Water, has been contracted with Solstice Publishing for her latest work, Conspiracy of Ravens.  The latest in a series of pulse-pounding tales, Vaughan says its two predecessors are written in such a way that they can stand as individual stories, but still feed into each other, creating a fluid, overarching theme.  Yet this particular work stands apart in a very important way. “This new book,” Vaughan states, “has an occult/paranormal theme, a serial killer, romance, and death...lots of death. Set in Philadelphia, Conspiracy of Ravens focuses on the mysterious and opportunistic Catherine Meara, a.k.a. the “Raven Witch Killer,” and Philly Herald reporter Sophia Pascale, who has been assigned to interview the convicted murderer at the Philadelphia St

There is no greater joy as an author to see your books doing well or know that readers are enjoying them.  But I get a real big kick out the arguments over which of my heroes are the "Better Man"  Well this must have sparked something in Cade McCormick of POUR ME because this little novella has shot up in sales out of the blue.   Watch out Hawk Marlow and Dalton Stanton...Cade has something to prove.

Well I’ve been writing for years, always have wanted to be published. Just never took that gianormous step.
So far the reception on Josey's Mountain is beyond my expectations. There is something about that manuscript that I can't put my finger on. It just seems to breathe it's own air. I'm thrilled that readers feel it too.

Today on our Ellite Blog, we have author Olivia Gracey.   Olivia is a debut author with her newest release from Solstice Publishing.  The Allow Factor.  Thank you for joining us here today, Olivia.   1.  How old were you when you started writing and when did you decide to take it serious?   I started writing at a very early age. I was always creating stories and characters out of my dolls. I began in junior high writing poems, short stories and songs. I was in my thirties when I decided I would write a novel. When I penned my first one I was hooked. Creating a story and a believable fictitious life became an obsession. It was all I wanted to do. I knew my purpose in this life had finally found me. But when my manuscript was finished and my beautiful piece was turned down time after time for publication, I became disheartened and set the dream aside. A few years later and a lot of encouragement I picked back up the dream with a new idea for a new book, “The Allow Factor.” My goal

Welcome author C.A. Szarek to Ellite!  Chrissy is a very talented author with the ability to write different genres.  Her latest, The Tartan Mp3 Player is already out and doing fantastic!  I am very honored and humbled that she took the time to stop in and say hello. 1. How old were you when you wrote your first story and when did you decide to take writing seriously? I have always been a writer. So I was very young when I started. I think I told stories before I actually wrote them down, too. It’s destiny for me, I think. But when I wrote what I could call a novel/story I was 14. It WILL NEVER see the light of day, but it was about a 14 year old girl (obvi I didn’t think outside the box) finding a dragon egg in the woods. LOL. It was full of magic and first kisses, too. Romance was ALWAYS a part of anything I wrote, even as a kid. I didn’t “get serious” about writing until a few years ago. I never STOPPED writing, but decided to pursue publication and joined RWA, and my chapter
