Ivy clutched the blanket
as he took a moment to rough up Violet’s hair. “Take Yamka out to see the sun,”
he instructed. “We have visitors. Big yellow and black butterflies that dance
in the air. Go see if you can catch one,” he added. “Monarchs!” Violet
responded with delight, grabbing for Yamka’s hand to drag her out of the
teepee.
When they were alone,
Ivy swallowed hard. There was something about Horserunner’stone of voice and penetrating look, that awakened that part of her that was all female.
